What you need to know about Group Life Insurance Plan?
Group Life Insurance is a type of life insurance in which a single contract covers an entire group of members/employees. Typically, the policy owner is an employer or an entity such as organization, and the policy covers the employees or members of the group. Group life insurance enables organization/associations to protect its employees/members against the major uncertainties of life at an affordable cost.

- Death Due to Any cause (DAC) - In an unforeseen event of death due to any cause (Sickness or Accident as defined in policy)
- Permanent Total Disability (PTD) - In the event of a member being totally and permanently disabled and being unable ever again to follow his own occupation or any other occupation (Sickness or Accident as defined in policy)
- Permanent Partial Disability (PPD) – In the event of a member suffering, the loss by physical separation, or the total loss of use of, any limb or organ of the body or the total and irrecoverable loss of sight as set out in the Continental Scale of Benefits (Sickness or Accident as defined in policy)
- Temporary Total Disability (TTD) – In the event of a member being totally unable to follow his normal occupation as a result of being continuously and totally disabled (Sickness or Accident as defined in policy)
- Medical Expenses – Cost of medical Expenses due to an accident
- Repatriation Expenses – Shall reimburse the actual cost of Repatriation of the mortal remains or the disabled member to his home country subject to the maximum limit agreed in the policy
- Terminal Illness – Where the life expectancy of the member is up to to a particular period
- Critical Illness – if an insured suffers from one of the defined critical illnesses in accordance with the definitions described in the policy

The cost of Group Life Coverage is far lesser than what the employees or members would pay for a similar amount of coverage in an Individual Life Insurance plan.
Group Life Insurance is not a mandatory insurance in the UAE. Life insurance is an optional employment perk that may /may not be offered to employees. If a company offers Group Life Insurance, there is no minimum or maximum amount of coverage that must be offered.
Entities with a minimum of 10 employees could avail to a Group Life Insurance in the UAE.

Usually the Group Life Insurance contract is for 1 year
- War, invasion, act of foreign enemies, hostilities or warlike operations
- Attempted suicide or self-inflicted injury
- Misuse of drugs of alcohol.
- Aviation, gliding or any other form of aerial flight other than as a fare paying passenger of a recognized airline or charter service.
- Ingestion of poison or drugs, or inhalation of fumes
- Participation in or training for any dangerous or hazardous sport or competition or riding or driving in any form of race or competition.
- Any breach of the law by the Member or any assault provoked by him.
- Mental Illness or mental disease or nervous conditions unless confined in a sanatorium.
- Injury caused by nuclear fusion or radioactive contamination.
- HIV/AIDS and related diseases
- Pre-existing medical conditions for new members.
No. But the member can take separate life policy from different insurers with improved benefits.
If a member is diagnosed with a total and permanent disability due to accident and/or sickness, insurer will pay a lump sum amount as defined in the policy.
