Question:
Can my health insurance cover my spouse in the UAE?
The health insurance coverage for your spouse or dependents in the UAE depends on the type of policy provided by your employer and the specific regulations in the emirate where your visa is issued.
Companies registered and operating in Dubai Emirate must provide health insurance for their employees, but employers are not legally obligated to provide coverage for their employee’s dependents.
Companies registered and operating in Abu Dhabi emirate must provide health insurance for their employee’s dependents including 3 children below the age of 18 years.
Companies registered and operating in Northern Emirates (ie. Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain) are not required to provide insurance coverage to their employees but it will be mandatory to provide coverage from 1st Jan 2025 onwards. (subject to changes as per UAE authorities)
However, if your family members are under your sponsorship in the UAE, you are legally required to obtain health insurance coverage for them as well, as per the law.
